Sleeping Bear Point Trail

Sleeping Bear Point Trail is incredibly diverse with it’s landscape, starting out the hike walking through a forested path that quickly opens up to dunes. The trail will lead you to Lake Michigan in less than a mile of walking.

This trailhead has a “choose your own adventure” layout, but almost all the paths lead to Lake Michigan. Katelinn, Jeremy, and I started out our session at Glen Haven Beach for some photos with their two pups. Dogs are not allowed at Sleeping Bear Point to protect the endangered shorebird – the Piping Plover, but thankfully this spot wasn’t far from the main hike we wanted to do. Sleeping Bear Point  is just down the road, so the three of us explored the trail while their mom waited in the car with the dogs. Katelinn and Jeremy had never been here so I was happy to show them around. We walked up and down the dunes, through the lush landscape and dune grass, right down to the beach. The sunset was all I could have hoped for, casting a golden glow on Sleeping Bear Dunes. We took advantage of this dreamy lighting, that is until it faded into dusk.
